CPAP
CPAP Clinic Gwinnett GA

CPAP for Treatment of Sleep Apnea
A good night’s sleep is an integral part of overall health and wellness. Gwinnett Sleep is your complete care solution for your sleep apnea. We have physicians, testing, and sleep apnea machines for patients to use.
Our goal is to provide excellent care and make a sometimes confusing and complicated process as simple as it can be. Don’t see the information you’re looking for on this page? Give us a call. We serve patients in Gwinnett and the surrounding areas.
What is CPAP therapy?
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or CPAP, is a machine used as a sleep apnea treatment. CPAP machines are used for the treatment of sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, abnormal breathing, and other breathing disorders during sleep. CPAP machines are able to keep airways open during sleep by using mild air pressure. CPAP machines also prevent the airways from collapsing during sleep.
CPAP machines have a mask to cover your nose and mouth that is connected to a motor by a tube. The sleep doctors at Gwinnett Sleep will work with you to make sure your CPAP machine is set up properly. We will work with you to find the most comfortable and effective machine option.
What is BiPAP?
Bilevel positive airway pressure, or BiPAP, machines are non-invasive breathing machines. Similar to CPAP, BiPAP machines also have a mask connected to a machine through a tube. The main difference between the two is that bilevel PAP devices deliver two levels of air pressure, whereas a CPAP machine is a continuous level of air pressure. CPAP is typically the first option for those with obstructive sleep apnea. If the CPAP machine is not working for the patient, BiPAP is an alternative option.
The CPAP clinic at Gwinnett Sleep provides a variety of services at our Lawrenceville and Duluth locations.

CPAP Therapy Best Practices

- Use your CPAP machine every time you sleep
- Clean your CPAP machine regularly
- Try not to adjust the settings of the machine
If you are still having trouble with your CPAP machine, please contact our sleep specialists for a consultation.

Inspire Therapy
Get The Sleep You’ve Been Dreaming About.
The Inspire Program, now offered by Gwinnett Sleep, is a new method of treating sleep apnea that has amazing results. The Inspire Program is an innovative new technology that, unlike CPAP machines which simply manage symptoms, works to actively cure your obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). With this device, patients can leave their sleep apnea behind and finally get a good night’s sleep.
How It Works:
Inspire Sleep is a small device that is placed under your skin in a same-day outpatient procedure that takes about 2 hours. When implanting the device, your doctor will make 2 small incisions under your chin and below your collarbone. This device stops snoring and sleep apnea by delivering mild stimulation to the muscles in your airways, which allows the airway to remain open during sleep.

The Inspire device is controlled by a handheld remote that is turned on before sleep. When the device is on, it sends mild stimulation to your motor nerve, which gently pushes your tongue out of the way to facilitate easier breathing. This stimulation should not feel uncomfortable or painful, nor should it disrupt your sleep. The Inspire device is designed to be practically invisible and unable to be felt during the day.
Want To Join?
To begin the Inspire Program, you must first go through a consultation with our sleep specialist to determine candidacy by a physical exam and home sleep study (if not performed within last 2 years). Part of the qualification is that you have already tried using CPAP to treat your sleep apnea, and it did not work for you or you did not tolerate.
Once an evaluation and home sleep study determine you are a candidate for inspire then you will see an ENT physician for DISE (Drug induced sleep endoscopy) exam. During this exam, doctors will use a small camera to observe how your airway opens and closes. The airway exam process takes about 20 minutes, and once it is complete, you’ll know if Inspire is right for you.
Once you have qualified for the device, you can set up your Inspire procedure to receive the implant. After the procedure, you can take over-the-counter medication during recovery and resume non-strenuous activity within a few days, although you should wait to begin strenuous activities after a few weeks.
Why It Matters:
The Inspire Program is important as it effectively stops sleep apnea from occurring. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to adverse effects such as an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and diabetes. The sleep deprivation caused from sleep apnea can also lead to workplace or automobile accidents.
Sleep deprivation has a negative effect on your overall health, so managing sleep apnea and achieving restful sleep is an important factor in staying healthy and reducing your risk of developing other medical conditions. With the Inspire device, sleep apnea becomes a thing of the past and patients who have undergone the procedure are able to achieve the restful sleep they need to stay healthy.
Our Team Can Help:
At Gwinnett Sleep, we now offer the Inspire Program because we believe that all of our patients deserve high-quality rest. Our doctors specialize in sleep medicine and are experts in helping patients resolve their sleep issues to get the good night’s sleep they deserve. Dr. Jasani, one of our talented sleep doctors, is one of the only doctors in the Gwinnett area to provide the new Inspire Sleep service because Gwinnett Sleep believes in innovation to provide patients with the best care possible. Make an appointment today to get started with this life-changing device and improve your sleep.

What is a home sleep study?
A home sleep study mirrors a conventional sleep study but is conducted in the patient’s home without the presence of doctors.
Understanding At-Home Sleep Studies
An at-home sleep study, also known as home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), is a diagnostic procedure that allows patients to monitor their sleep patterns and breathing during the night while sleeping in their own beds. The study typically involves wearing a portable monitoring device that records key parameters such as airflow, oxygen levels, respiratory effort, and heart rate. These measurements provide valuable information about the presence and severity of sleep-disordered breathing, including episodes of apnea and hypopnea, which are characteristic of conditions like obstructive sleep apnea.
A home sleep test is specialized in diagnosing sleep apnea, whereas an in-lab test will give a more comprehensive picture of other chronic sleep conditions.
Advantages of At-Home Sleep Studies
At-home sleep studies offer several advantages over traditional in-laboratory sleep studies, including greater convenience, comfort, and cost-effectiveness. Patients can undergo testing in familiar surroundings, which may lead to more natural sleep patterns and accurate assessments of their sleep-related symptoms. Additionally, at-home sleep studies may be more accessible for individuals with mobility issues or transportation challenges, allowing them to receive timely diagnosis and treatment for sleep disorders.
How Do You Get an At-Home Sleep Study?
This type of study must be prescribed to a patient by a primary care or sleep physician. At Gwinnett Sleep, we make sure to offer the patient a tutorial on how to conduct the study at home, including how to attach the necessary equipment.
How long does a home sleep study take?
The whole testing process can take 1-3 nights. After this, the results will be interpreted by a certified sleep physician, and they will be able to provide a diagnosis.
How much does a home sleep study cost?
The average cost for the test is typically around $1,000 to $2,000 per night, but insurance, including Medicare, may cover the majority of these expenses.
At-Home Sleep Study Step-by-Step
Consultation: Patients meet with a sleep specialist to discuss their symptoms, medical history, and sleep habits. The sleep specialist determines whether an at-home sleep study is appropriate based on the patient’s individual needs and clinical presentation.
Device Setup: Patients receive instruction on how to set up and use the portable monitoring device for the at-home sleep study. The device is typically worn around the chest or abdomen and may include sensors for measuring airflow, oxygen saturation, and respiratory effort.
Monitoring: Patients wear the monitoring device while sleeping in their own bed. The device records data throughout the night, including breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and heart rate.
Data Analysis: After the sleep study is completed, the recorded data is analyzed by a sleep technologist or specialist. The analysis includes evaluating breathing patterns, identifying episodes of apnea and hypopnea, and assessing overall sleep quality.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Based on the results of the at-home sleep study, the sleep specialist makes a diagnosis and develops a personalized treatment plan. Treatment options may include lifestyle modifications, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, oral appliances, or surgical interventions, depending on the severity and underlying cause of the sleep disorder.
Who Might Benefit from At-Home Sleep Studies
At-home sleep studies are particularly beneficial for patients who:
- Have symptoms suggestive of obstructive sleep apnea, such as loud snoring, daytime fatigue, and morning headaches.
- Prefer the convenience and comfort of undergoing testing at home rather than in a sleep laboratory.
- Have mobility issues or transportation challenges that make it difficult to travel to a sleep center for testing.
- Require timely diagnosis and treatment for sleep-related breathing disorders to improve overall health and quality of life.
Respironics: Leading Technology for At-Home Sleep Studies
At Gwinnett Sleep, we use Respironics devices for our at-home sleep studies, ensuring accurate and reliable monitoring of sleep-related parameters. Respironics is a leading manufacturer of sleep diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, known for its innovative technology and user-friendly design. We provide patients with the highest standard of care and ensure optimal outcomes in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.

Book a Sleep Consultation
We provide in-office and hospital consultations for the treatment of sleep disorders. These consultations occur in controlled, comfortable settings. Gwinnett Sleep’s board-certified sleep experts evaluate how patients respond to various treatments and listen to patient feedback. Based on the patient’s history and symptoms, we will develop a treatment plan equipped to solve their individual condition. A sleep study may be recommended as a next step to analyze the patient’s sleep patterns.
What is a Sleep Consultation?
A sleep consultation is a specialized medical appointment designed to assess and address sleep-related issues and disorders. During this procedure, patients meet with a sleep specialist, typically a pulmonologist or a sleep medicine physician, who evaluates their sleep habits, medical history, and symptoms to determine the underlying cause of their sleep problems.
The consultation may involve a comprehensive review of the patient’s sleep diary, medical records, and any previous sleep studies or diagnostic tests. Additionally, the sleep specialist may conduct a physical examination and discuss lifestyle factors, such as diet, exercise, and stress levels, that could impact sleep quality.
Based on the evaluation, the sleep specialist develops a personalized treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs, which may include lifestyle modifications, behavioral therapy, medication management, or further diagnostic testing, such as polysomnography or home sleep apnea testing. Throughout the consultation process, the sleep specialist provides education and support to empower patients to make positive changes and improve their sleep health.
How long does a sleep consultation last?
These consultations could help diagnose conditions including sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, and insomnia. From there, sleep consultants can determine the best treatment options.

Polysomnography
What is a sleep study?
A sleep study, also known as a polysomnography, is a comprehensive recording procedure designed to identify and analyze different sleep stages to aid in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. During this process, various parameters such as brain waves, heart rate, breathing patterns, and muscle activity are monitored and recorded. Subsequently, a specialized sleep professional meticulously reviews and interprets the extensive data collected, which can span over 800 pages, to provide valuable insights and recommendations for optimal treatment strategies.
When Do You Need to Consult a Sleep Specialist?
If you struggle with sleep over a long period of time, it’s time to consult a sleep specialist. Seeking a specialist could also be beneficial if you believe you are experiencing sleeping disorders, like insomnia, sleep apnea, parasomnias, sleep motion disorders, or other related sleep conditions.

What to Expect at Your Sleep Study
We strive to provide our patients with the best care. We want your experience with us to be comfortable and stress-free. Below are some answers to our most commonly asked questions, so you can feel 100% confident and informed.
Q: How long is a sleep study?
A: The process typically takes 6 to 8 hours. While most sleep studies occur at night, they are available during the day for patients who routinely work a third shift. Gwinnett Sleep’s day services include the Multiple Sleep Latency Test and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test.
Q: Where do Gwinnett Sleep’s sleep studies take place?
A: The sleep studies are performed in private rooms that are comfortable and quiet. Sleep rooms at Gwinnett Sleep are equipped with Sleep Number beds or Tempur-Pedic mattresses with reclining functions, as well as televisions with Direct TV. Full bathrooms with showers are also available.
Q: How is a sleep study performed?
A: Sleep studies are performed by applying small metal discs (electrodes) to the head and skin with an adhesive. Breathing is measured by flexible elastic belts positioned on the chest and abdomen. Blood oxygen saturation is measured by a clip on the index finger or earlobe (pulse oximeter). This procedure is painless and designed to be as pleasant as possible.
Q: How long will it take to receive sleep study test results?
A: After your study is performed, we will evaluate your results and you will receive a final report within five business days. We will then develop a custom treatment plan and schedule any required studies, tests, or follow-ups.
If you have more specific questions regarding your sleep study, please contact us and we’d be happy to answer your questions.
